PaTriple7's blog
hey, I'm feeling like blogging in between homework stuff
I had a hard stretch of poker, I played bad one night and dropped over 1,000$ in a stupid way
I'm trying to forget this hand, but at the same time I want to let you know what happened, I know I made a mistake and I'm gonna share it as I share my good hands
That pot occurred when I opened for a raise in early position with 9h7h, got some calls, flop came Ah-10h-7x, I had about 200BB and one guy in the blinds was covering me, he lead into the pot for 25$ (pot was about 100-125$ can't remember exactly) and I raised to 100$
One dude to my left took a lot of time and finally folded his hand, everybody else folded and it came back to the original bet and he re-raised to something like 250-300$
At that point I clearly know he has a monster and will most likely never fold it, but I don't know want happened and I decided to just shove it all in, he took some time and finally called with A-7 and I didn't catch
I think I made 2 big mistakes in that hand, first I re-raised all-in, that's major blunder
But also I forgot to think about a detail that sold my hand, since the guy to my left folded with despite, he clearly had an ace in his hand, so when the player with A-7 thought about calling, he said "you don't have Aces", and it's true, so that was something that slipped off my mind when I try to represent a hand, so at that point he only fears 10-10 or A-10, I could have a set of sevens but it's less likely since he had one too
So that was the biggest mistake I made so far, I read the situation totally wrong and didn't think long enough about it
It sucks, but I learned a lot from it and I think my game is getting better when I learn from my mistakes
I had another rough session but it was all set-ups and coolers. I got set over set, and in another hand I lost a 80-20 with one card to come when I was all-in on a J-9-8-J board with Q-10 against A-J, river came 8
but I bounced back from it and I got a very good session last time I played, I had to make a marginal call and I sucked out when my flush draw hit a pair against a better flush draw that we both missed (had 8c-7c vs Jxcc), cost me 250 into about 700, so I was getting huge odds and I thought I couldn't really fold my hand considering his range, after running the numbers it was a bad call, but only by a few %, so it wasn't that big of a mistake. Rest of the night I totally owned and got maximum value off my hands and hit some good flops so I finished the night up 1.6k$+
Valek and I booked our trip to Atlantic City, we'll be leaving on october 22nd, for 5-6 days, still yet to decide (who knows, we might never come back again if we make tons of $$$ lol). I'm really looking forward that trip
Good night
I sucked at poker tonight.
end of discussion.
dot.
Hey ! long time
I know I told you guys I would give you updates more often on the weight loss prop bet, but I didn't do because I basically didn't work on it at all, I weighted at 262 this morning, which is very bad since I only lost 8 pounds so far in nearly 3 months. But I didn't work out at all, I only been watching my food a bit, and not even closely, I still eat some bad foods 2-3 times a week, but it's still better than it was at the start of the summer.
So I have 67 pounds to lose, with 279 days to go, which makes it roughly less than 2 pounds a week. I can definitely do that and I'll reach my goal.
I started to train a bit in my own gym at home. I'll start going back at the gym in about 2 weeks when I'll be done with my tons of homework. And I hope to get in better shape for my exams and the rest of those 279 days to reach my goal.
Now let's talk poker.
It's been a good ride since I last posted. Except for my last session last weekend. I lost the most amount in one night ever in my young career lol. 1600$, OUCH. yeah, I only lost about 600-700-800$ max before that in one night, so it's double the amount I ever lost in one session. very hard to control my emotions after that one.
It sucks because I played well and lost the minimum on some set-ups hands, and I got some coolers too like K high flush against A high flush where I lost all my stack. I wiffed twice big pots when I had monster draws (flush and straight) and missed both turns and rivers. I also hit trips while my opponents had full house, twice (had J-4 on the blinds on JJ flop and my opponent turned a set to full. and had 8-7 on A-7-x flop that went all check and turn 7, against one dude that limped A-7), but I only lost like 100$-150$ each time so it wasn't that bad because I could have lost way more in those spots. And finally I lost two red Kings KhKd to some dude that called my re-raise (I was middle position and re-raised a UTG min. raise) from the small blind with J-10o and flop came Qh-9h-8x.
So you guys can see that it was a nightmare night, where everything went wrong.
I was first pissed when I had the 2nd nuts (K high flush against A high flush) (first cooler I had of the night), but I was playing great and I decided to keep going. I was definetely playing the best I could with the cards I got and cold decks I had, very unlucky night.
I guess the only thing to do is to forget about this night and keep going. Money will come back my way when opponents play that bad, like for example I'm sure that J-10o dude would have doubled me if he hits any J or 10 or KQ or Q9 flop, so I only lose that hand like I did a little part of all the times he calls OOP with that crappy hand.
I'll try to play once or twice this weekend and maybe one other time before the exams.
And then Valek and I are planning a little 4-5 days trip to AC, which would be so nice, I hope everything goes as planned and we can make it.
Time for me to go to university for the evening. So have fun on the tables and take care.
Health and Prop Bet Blog
Hello everyone. Long time I didn’t blog. I was very busy with the end of the semester, exams, and job that started. But now I got a little more time on my hand and I’m doing well so far this summer.
I got some big news. After watching Mike Matusow won his weight loss prop bet, Valek and I had a little idea that we could do the same thing for me. Since I wanted to lose some weight, we sticked in a little prop bet to make it more fun. I officially weighted myself at 270,8 lbs. So the bet is that I need to get to 194,9 or less by July 1st 2009, Valek gets 195,0 and over.
I’m happy for it and it’s a great challenge, far from being easy. I already lost about 60 lbs in a little bit more than a year, but this is definitely a huge challenge for me, and I hope I’ll be able to reach it. I will be pleased to pocket some money if I reach it, but I think I won’t mind losing it much since I’ll be able to lose a lot of weight trying to make it. So even if I lose I won’t be too upset.
I will blog about that challenge about once or twice a month.
I already have some goals I want to reach and timelines. I got some training plans and programs from a friend that is a huge fan of physical training. So I’ll try to follow the plans and maybe modify them for me to actually enjoy the next year. I don’t want to make it a painful challenge either.
I have in mind to lose a lot of weight very quick, which is pretty standard. First pounds are water and weight surplus. But the last 20-30 lbs will be a real challenge since there are always the toughest ones to lose. I’ll have to work hard the last months to reach my goals.
So I’ll update you guys about it in a couple of weeks and let you know how it goes. Wish me good luck hehe! Even if this has nothing to do with luck :O
hey, first time for me, I'm blogging 2nd day in a row
today is my small "internet come back" day
yeah I opened a internet poker program for the 1st time in about 2-3 weeks
played some SnGs and Cash Games on FT
went so so, finished up 0,5 buy-in (26$)
as usual I put my money in with best hands, and sometimes it held, sometimes it didn't
here's an example:

at first I put him on maybe a small PP, but after that with the way he was playing, I was pretty sure he would have checked back the river, so it was either a bluff or a value bet, but more times a bluff I think, and I was right again
I think I'm getting pretty good at knowing where I stand in a hand, and getting to know the pattern of my opponents...
.....
which bring me to my 2nd subject
Valek will soon be begging me to let him win our HU challenge
yeah yeah he might win some pots and value some top pair against my 2nd pair, but I'll chip him down to his last penny by 4betting bluff preflop
he will be crying and making nightmares about me
but it's nothing new for me, everybody should be fearing me at a poker table
.....
ok, hockey time, watching the game Ottawa Boston
have a good evening !
HEY HEY sup guys ?
Just came back from the casino.
It was a hard session for my mind, I played my A++ game the whole way and only finished up 19,50$ lol.
Real joke, but nothing I can do.
I really feel like my poker game is at a high level right now, and I'll try to play more in the next days.
Here's how it went :
I had decent hands in the first half of my session.
lost about 80$ in the first 30 minutes playing some loose aggressive style poker, didn't flop much, but it paid off later, when I flopped monsters, because I got paid
I 3-betted AQo in the cutoff after 2 limps and a raise from the guy to my right, he flat called me, flop came A-Q-x and I valued every streets until doubling up, he had KK and didn't think I had the A, too bad some people just can't fold and it cost him a lot
I mean, it's pretty insane to call all the streets after a preflop raise on a A board, he couldn't even beat QQ either, only hand possible was maybe JJ-TT, anyways I had him crushed so weeeeeee
After that I made some nice bets, nice checks, and nice folds. I was able to place some nice raises when I felt weaknesses and was able to let go some hands when people checked to me to induce a bet from me.
Then this fucking hand happened, I just raised 2 pots in a row and won preflop, I get AA on the button, limp limp raise, I pop it to 40$, and SB moves in for like 55$ total, raiser calls and I can't raise (grrr) so I call, flop came J-10-x, raiser bets like 20$, real joke, I say to myself too bad if he has 10-10 or J-J, I ain't folding this. So I move in and he calls in like 3 seconds with J-9o, I was totally shocked, SB shows K-K
I'm in the driver's seat, until turn came a K, it was not so bad since I was still winning since he only takes the side pot, and then river comes another J
So I lose everything when I was wayyyyy ahead of both, terrible beat, mentaly and $
But I was playing good, and these things happen, it's poker eh :s
Couple of hands later I made a nice call on the river for like 50$ with A-10o on a board Kd-J-3-Jd-5, he checked flop and check-called turn, I was pretty sure he had nothing of that, since he would have bet the K or J on the flop (kinda easy guy to read, bets when he has something) and he fired pot for 50$ on the river, which was quite big and looked suspicious, and he had Ad-2d
Normaly I try to avoid these situations, but his story didn't make any sense, unless he had a huge monster full house and was betting big to try to make it look like a bluff, but it was indeed a bluff
After about 3 orbits of folding because I was getting real shitty starting hands, It got limped to me on the SB with J7s and BB checks, flop came 7-6-2 and I bet and BB called and another guy, turn a J and I bet again and BB called and the other guy raised, I didn't really like the situation, often people will slowplay sets like that, but I moved in and was called by the BB and the other guy folded, I was shocked again, and the BB had it, 66 for 2nd set, and I lost about 130$ that hand, cooler, not really sure how I can fold this....
So I quit at around midnight, Valek stayed and it looked like he was doing OK, we had a little chat during the souper and talked about some ideas for PF, we'll try to make some of these happen so stay tuned.
Oh and also, there will be a Valek vs Me part 2, so watch out for this, it's gonna be big and crazy!
Habs are making playoffs, weeeeee, they will finish 1st or 2nd of the division, they might go against Washington in the 1st round, that would make a nice 1st round serie.
Ok, Poker After Dark in 10 mins, so I'm gonna go and watch it, Gus vs the ladies (including JJ Liu, Valek's favorite player) LOL
Good night all
Hi
Valek and I went to the casino for an afternoon/evening/night session lol
but he was tougher than me since I left at around 11pm
It went average-great (playing 1-2 NL)
First I got a beat when my A3s got called all-in against A8o on a A-3-6 board, and he turned an 8 for a better 2 pair (wtf man, thanks for that call, but fuck that turn)
so it was a quick 200$ loss
but then I caught good cards, flopped a set, straight, and I also hit quad Aces, but the guy folded to my one third-pot super value bet lol
and I was about 260$ back up when we went to eat
and then it went average and I didn't catch much in the 2nd part of the session
lost 200$ right away, 4th hand, I'm cutoff with Ac-Qc
2 limpers early-mid
I pop it to 14$
SB calls WTF? lol
and 2nd limper calls too
flop comes As-7c-4c
SB checks, mid checks, I bet 35$
he raises me to 80$, I moved in and he calls with A4o
and I didn't improve
:(
I don't think I can really play the hand another way, I think it's EV+ to do that move with the number of bad players playing there... and since he limped-called, I was putting him on either 4-4, Aces up, or A-x... dunno what you think about it, I like to get the full value out of this hand... if I call and doesn't improve on the turn, I'll be facing most of the time an all-in, and face a difficult decision since he could also be holding A-J to A-8... I was hoping he would have a kind of A-8 like the guy who put me all-in when I was holding A-2 on A-2-6 board and he turn an 8 for a better Aces up, but bleh :( ... lemme know if you agree with my decision
then I won a couple of pots, stole some too
I went up to 350, flopped a set against a loose player that had top pair,
then lost a big pot in this hand :
I have 9h-8h on the button, UTG limps (it's so fucking sick the
number of limps in those games, a real limp fest), a loose guy in mid
position raises to 6$, folded to me, I decided to call
maybe I should have also 4-bet there, let me know what you think...
BB calls and UTG too
flop comes Ah-10h-7c
BB checks, UTG checks, mid bets about 20$, I raise to 60$ (mistake ? flat call?)
BB and UTG fold, mid calls
turn 2c
he bets 50$
I called (mistake? don't know if there's any value in re-raising again, maybe move in)
river is a brick he bet again and I folded
I thought that maybe I could flat call the flop to induce a raise or even some calls from the 2 other players and get more value if I hit
It sucks because it's the kind of flop I would like to move in on, but I was stuck in position with a loose calling station to my right
I think I played it correctly, couldn't hit my millions out
let me know your opinion...
then I managed to get back to around 270 and lost 60$ on an all-in from a short stack, when I had AJ and him KJ on a J high flop and he hit the K on the turn to take it down... grrrrrr
I left couple of hands after, was a bit pissed of how it went down, nothing was going much my way.
It kinda sucks after my good 1st part of the session before we went eat :(
so I finished the whole day 65$ over... which is less than minimum salary lol, I should have gone flip some burgers at McDonald's instead... :O

Casino de Montréal Poker Room Opening
Hi everyone
I’m on mega-monkey-tilt like Valek said
haha
But not for the same reason, because I’m re-writing this blog because when I pressed post blog it all disappeared and nothing was saved and I had no new entry, so basicaly I guess it’s all been deleted… so I’m writing this in a word document so I can at least save it and paste it, and paste it as many times as I want if it doesn’t work lol
So yeah it’s been a long time, quick updates, nothing really special happened in my life. I had a less than average semester at school, but it’s been really good on poker side. I’m playing the best poker of my young carreer right now lol, I’m playing really solid and start to get some great reads on my opponents. Althought I didn’t get as much results as I hoped on the tournaments part, I’m pretty sure it’s coming my way sooner or later, it’s just a question of time and a bit of luck in some keys situations where some hands have to hold up… but that’s poker ;)
So I’m taking this time to write my blog since it’s been the opening of the Casino de Montréal Poker Room
Valek, Infected and I went to the opening Friday morning at 11am. Poker Faction represents :) . even If I was the only one to put PF on my nickname ;) . Thank God we arrived at 10h45 just before the line-up was getting longgggg, so it took us about 30-40 mins to get our cards done and deposit some money and we were ready to play. Infected and I were sitting at the same table, Valek 2 tables aside.
Poker Room was very very nice, visualy and praticaly, I liked it a lot. Everything was great, bar was cool, ladies welcoming us were h0tt and there was so many TV where we could watch sports/poker/news.
It’s a great room, 25 tables, mostly 1-2 NL tables, they were offering also one-table SnGs and other cash games, 2-5 NL, 5-10 NL, 10-20+ limit. All tables are the latest in electronic poker tables, hi-tech stuff, easy to use, and fast.
So here’s a little recap on some of my hands :
Nothing really unusual happened in the whole session
---
3rd hand I played, I'm on the button with AhTh, 4 limpers, I bump it to 16$ and got one caller in the SB (uh oh that kinda screw up my plan) but the guy didn't look so strong, most likely a kid that looked barely 18 and bought in for 100$
flop came Qh-Kh-Jh...
no way are you kidding me, that was in my dream last night lol
flop came Qs-10s-6s
he check-called my bet of 28$
turn came As and he insta shoved into me... I wanted to call so bad but I couldn't, even Aces Up on that board don't look good lol, pretty obvious he had the flush, I guess everybody at the table would have called him with my hand, people were playing so loose, I can't see anyone laying down Aces and Tens haha, except Infected that was sitting two seats to my left ;)
The guy quickly showed the Ks and was all happy... no surprise, and thanks for the info ! lol
---
rest went good in fact I think it was the biggest pot I lost in the whole session
couple of all-ins against short stacks, AQ vs AJ, AK vs AQ, AK vs AK, stuff like that, everything hold up and I split the AK-AK one
--
another interesting hand happened about 20 mins later, UTG+1 raised to 6$, 3 callers and I was on the cutoff with KdJd, I thought about laying this down, but I could also try to flop something huge so I called... flop came Ks-5c-6s, UTG+1 was short stack and shove for about 25$, another shortstack mid position moved in for like 32$ total... and now I was in the spot I didn't want to be and I wanted to have folded it preflop so bad lol
so after some thoughts I was like, bleh it's 30$ and I might magicly be ahead, and I was ! lol first guy showed 7-7 and the other one K-10
my hand held up and raked a nice pot, I really thought it wasn't a good call, but considering the action and loose players at the table, I thought it couldn't be worse than playing lottery lol, I was pretty sure to face KQ but nothing really better, so with only one possible hand I might had the best hand, and in fact I did
--
After that, I lost a smallish pot to an old lady who had about 20$ left from her 50$ original buy-in and she limped from early position and I called in cutoff with K-9 and button and blinds called, flop came K-x-x and everybody checked and I bet about the pot and she moved all-in for like 3-4$ more, so I called and she showed AA and was pretty happy to have "trap me"...
yeah why don't you go play bingo and leave before I get all of your stack back, and she in fact did leave... lol
--
another interesting hand where I had 77 in SB, UTG raised to 8$ and he had a stack of about 170$, so I thought I had some odds to call and try to hit a set or maybe a low flop to win the hand...
flop came 6s-6h-3s and I thought the best way to know where I was standing was to lead and bet, I bet 15$ and he shoved his whole stack...
I laughed and folded quickly, 110% sure he had an overpair and he showed AA, he said he was scared of the flush draw... good way to lose value with your AA lol, but I was shutting down the hand if I was called and couldn't improve
--
later I had AQo and flop Q-2-Q, got no action after a smallish usual c-bet from my part :(
--
on a side note, I want to congrats Infected, it was the first time he played a cash game live and managed to play some very nice hands (I had the chance to watch some since we were sitting at the same table) and he finished up for 60$
--
so after that 2-3 hours session, Infected and I went out, I brought him home after a quick dinner and I head back to the poker room where Valek was still playing
I had little talk with him until the floorman asked me to move away or go play... so I went to play :)
that's when I caught my best hands of the night QQ and JJ
1st hand as soon as I join, I'm in the BB with JJ, UTG+1 limps, mid position guy raises to 14$ and I bumped it to 38$, I wanted to know right away where I was standing...
UTG+1 called my 4bet, which surprised me, and after a long decision mid position guy folded his hand, I was surprised too since he was getting strong odds with UTG+1 call
flop came K-x-x and I lead out a huge bet, can't remember exactly but it was more than the pot, I wasn't planning on folding, I put him on a pocket pair, limp-call from early position often represents mid pairs like 6-6 to 10-10, so I was pretty confident the K didn't hit him, I would have thought about it a long time, but I really thought he didn't have QQ+ and he folded and showed 9-9
I was right, and I think I played the hand perfectly, guy in mid position was pissed because he folded KJ, but well that's why I re-raised to get rid of those trash hands…

not long after I pick up QQ UTG, raises to 9$ (Live play is a bit different from the internet, a normal raise to 6 or 7 doesn't make fold people, so you have to go with at least 4BBs, I was pretty much open raising 25% 8$ 50% 9$ 25% 10$)
and I got a call from the SB and BB
flop came 2-2-5 and SB checked and BB bet about 18$, I bumped to 50$ and they both folded quickly and BB showed 10-7, I guessed he stabbed at it thinking I had 2 overs, but I wasn't going anywhere with my ladies...

I won another big pot before leaving with 5h-4h, 2 limpers in front of me, I limped too and button raised it to 5$ (now who's gonna fold for 3$ lol), so everybody called, including the blinds, and it made a huge pot and flop came 5-4-3, I thought the button might had a big pocket and didn't to scare anyone with a big re-raise, so I was pretty excited with that flop, but I bet and everybody folded, but there was about 35$ in the pot, so it was pretty easy money, but I would have love to get more action for sure hehe :)

So this was it for our session, Valek and I left at about 7pm
And then I got caught speeding at 66km/h in a zone of 40km/h while heading back to Valek’s home, that screwed half of my poker winnings from the day… It sucked, but can’t do much about it… I still think it was a bit severe but oh well, I guess the more tickets they give the more happy their bosses are lol
I plan on focusing on school much more this semester, it’s also my last semester before I start my 2nd university degree. I also plan on focusing on poker too, I’ll play the Sunday major tourneys with Valek and also try to play 1 or 2 nights during the week, so I can at least play 2 days a week and keep my game in shape.
This is it for the next months. Oh also I plan on going to the gym at least 3 times a week, so I can get back in shape and going to the gym just feels good and there are some hot chicks :)
I wish everyone a great year. Health, Happiness, Success, and Sex… do we need something else ? lol
Talk to you next time !
Simple question... certainly harder to answer than "should I raise if I have the nuts?" hehe ;).
My name is Patrice, I'm a student at the University of Montreal, in accounting. I'm 22.
Here's how I started to play poker.
My love for poker started about 4 years ago. I was playing pool in a bar and a friend and I discovered some people were playing cards in a room next to us, and I decided to watch them play. At that time I didn't know anything about poker at all. It took me some time to learn and understand it well. I watched Moneymaker and Raymer winning the Main Event. At this time, the WSOP Main Event was like one of the only shows about poker on TV. Then, I started to play some small games at the same bar (40$ SnG, between 20 to 40 players) and I was gaining experience slowly. I won 3 times out of the first 10 times I played there and I wanted to learn more and more about the game.
I've always been a competitive person. I think that's a great quality to be a winning poker player. When I make mistakes or stupid stuff at a poker table, I'll always look to know the reasons of why I did that and try to find a way to not repeat the same mistakes.
Experience is also a key factor in the learning process about poker. You have to play to get better at poker. It ain't always about watching poker TV shows and reading poker books.
In fact, when I realized that experience was important in learning the game, that's when I started to play poker on the internet. It's a great way to play many hands, quickly, and face multiple kinds of situations. Even the professionnal poker players had to agree on that. Online poker is the best way to gain experience.
I met Marco (Valek) 3 years ago at university. And about one year ago we discovered that we had the same passion about poker.
I have to thank him for many things he taught me about poker. I thought I was a fairly good player at this time, but I realized I still had a lot of stuff to learn hehe ;).
So this is it about me and poker. In the next blogs/articles, I'll try to teach you some stuff too. The basics about poker and how to become a winning poker player. I hope I'll be able to help you improve your game. Marco and I are always discussing in the poker section of the forum. If you want to join us or read about the strategies and hands we played, be our guest !
My next blog will be after the exams, until then, have fun on the tables !
