Offlinewell the whole points system is almost completely accurate now (all that is missing is adding the retroactive 2 points per forum topic creation. all new content will be done automatically from now on. Now mind you for the time being in the forum right now it displays points for people however im going to replace that with a level system (a la rpg). Im still looking into modifying the code for it and trying to figure out what the
"f(points)= level" formula will be.
Because i think that people should never feel entitled to pulling rank on either me, marco, or moderators our level number will just be replaced with some sort of icon that represents our godlike powers over everyone. This is my attempt at bringing some fun into it. God knows to anyone that played wow that having that little bar that is about to level will make you participate more just out of the pure compulsion to see the bar fill up just so you can start it all over again. This level system wouldnt just be for lording your superior status on our site over noobs(dont worry it will be for that mostly) but also i plan on giving vent access, blog consideration,(posibly direct content submission and moderation consideration for very high level people) based on it. This will both keep begar losers out of vent and encourage people to participate on the site.
Now i know that this may seem crazy to some. I love the idea to death, however i am concerned that my love for my own idea might be blinding me to the posible problems this may arise. So i want you to sound off on this one. for real. I need some honest feedback about how you feel about this idea.
Do you think the point allocations are well done? (considering that we very much want to push for people to submit content)
Do you think giving moderators access to giving and removing points as they please going too far?
should i try to implement the actual little (xp) bar so a user could track his progress or just put the numbers on his profile?
I think it's a good idea. Even if it were just for vent access, it would be useful.
Also, I think beggarloser should be a word.
Don't worry about me. I know I'll have the most points with this system no matter what, but we should probably have personalized badges for ourselves. Maybe, if you reach a very high level, users could get personalized badges for themselves too.

I don't think moderators should be involved in giving or removing points. It will create a clusterfuck of problems if we ever get a lot of users. They should simply be moderators and let the automatic point system work for itself.
Lol I like the xp bar idea. Maybe it would look good in the user home page.
Also, I don't think moderators should be assigned by own may points they have. I would much rather have trusted people that post and contribute less than some punk I don't trust.
yeah i said moderation consideration. We wouldnt give most people moderator but we wounldnt take any moderators who arent at least level x. If the site becomes big enough we might need to get moderators that we dont know in RL to help out. These would obviously be people we come to know and trust but also this way they would have had to participate enough as well. It is more just a barrier for entry than a hey your level 10 your are now a moderator type thing.
the vent level requirement would be published however the other stuff would be more of an unwriten rule.

Yeah those are in the pipeline for after the logo is made. custom however probably not. maybe eventualy when we have piles of money to throw at graphical designers.
