Introduction to Ventrilo

 

Ventrilo is a program that allows large groups of people to talk to each other online. We set up our vent server so that people could go on to discuss poker or just login and talk with friends while playing online poker. 

 

Ventrilo Rules

1. No colluding: this will result in a permanent ban from Vent and from the site

2. Only active poker faction members are allowed to use it 

3. We reserve the right to kick or ban anyone that abuses Vent

 

In Ventrilo, there are different channels:

The Lobby: this is where you go by default when you connect. ( you cannot speak in here)

Poker Discussion: This is where people can go to talk about poker strategies or anything poker related.

Poker Faction Lounge: You can go here chat about anything you want. Go play some poker and hang out in here with fellow poker faction members and have fun.

Rooms: there are numbered rooms these are if you wanna just talk to a certain person or group of people outside of the main rooms 

Private Room(password protected): this is reserved for usage by the Poker Faction administrators

Training Room(password protected: reserved for 1 on 1 poker training.

 

 

 

1. The Ventrilo accounts are different from your Poker faction accounts. In order to get a Ventrilo account, use the contact button to send a Ventrilo Client Request. In the message, include the desired username and password (please remember that since Admins have access to this password, you should use one that you don't use anywhere else) Admins will process the requests within 24 hours. (usually much sooner. )

2. Download the newest Ventrilo client  http://ventrilo.com/download.php

3. Install it     ( click next, I accept, next , put in your name then click next, next, next, then finish)

4. This is where it gets a little complicated. Let's walk you through some steps with screen shots. Open vent for the first time

 

 

 

 

This one is already configured. To configure yours,click on the arrow next to the user name box. Click New and put in your Poker Faction username then hit OK. It is strongly suggested that you also input your name phonetically, as when you log onto the Ventrilo server, it will be announced to the others. When you're done, click OK.

 

  

 

 5. Click on the arrow next to the server box. Click new, then type Poker Faction as the server name.

You should now see this window.

 

 

Input the same information as in the picture

Hostname or IP:  voice350.hurricanehost.com

Port: 4180 

Password: this would be the password you specified in your Account Request

 

Hit ok.

 

6.  By default, Ventrilo will not have a Push-to-Talk key set. Click on setup. 

 

To set a Push-to-Talk key, check the "Use Push-To-Talk Hotkey" option.

Then click on the box that says "Hotkey" Now the next button you press will become your PTT (Push-to-Talk) key. I recommend that you use the mousewheel click button (Mouse3) as your PTT key. An alternative would be to use the Pause key on your keyboard, since it is usually unused.

Hit ok

7. At this point, you can hit Connect to connect. You should see all the different rooms on the Poker Faction Server

A room is entered by clicking on it's name. The names of all the people currently in the room will be listed under it. Once you are in the room, you should be able to hear other people talking and you can talk yourself by pushing the newly set PTT button.
